People climb walls to end domestic violence

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- Every climber has a goal to reach the top of a summit.

But climbers at one Indy rock wall had another goal in mind -- ending domestic violence.

West-side fitness facility Evo Rock + Fitness partnered with Beacon of Hope Crisis Center to raise money and help victims of domestic violence.

"Indiana is fifth in the nation in violence against women, No. 1 in the nation in teen suicides, No. 3 in the nation for teen dating violence," said Jackie Ponder of Beacon of Hope. "So we are greatly affected by it. This is something that happens with someone who sits next to you at church, who is on the PTA with you or who is in the next cubicle at work. It is a silent but growing problem in the United States."

Evo Rock + Fitness donated 60 percent of all-day pass sales Sunday to Beacon of Hope.
