INDIANAPOLIS -- Police are searching for a suspect's vehicle after a Rushville man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run Tuesday morning on I-465.

Police say the man was struck in the eastbound lanes of I-465, near Keystone Avenue, around 8:15.

A crane operator was standing near his broken-down crane on the side of I-465. The crane was seven feet off the road, police say.

A mechanic was working underneath the truck when the operator, Jeffrey A. Smith, 53, Rushville, was hit.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers with the Indiana State Police are searching for a maroon Ford pickup truck with heavy front-end damage.

Police don't know why the driver didn't stop.
