BEECH GROVE, Ind. -- A 13-year-old boy was arrested and preliminarily charged following a carjacking in Beech Grove last week.

The victim told police she was cleaning out her car with her 14-month-old son in the 4300 block of Malden Lane when a boy came up and asked for directions. When she started to give him directions, he pulled out a gun and told her to give him her keys.

She gave him her keys and ran inside her nearby apartment.

While driving away, the suspect hit three parked cars, causing minor damage, police say.

Two days later, police found the stolen car about four miles away. After an investigation, police arrested the suspect a block away from where the carjacking took place. They found a 9 mm handgun, which matched the description the victim gave police.

On the same night as the carjacking, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department investigated an attempted carjacking in Franklin Township about two hours before the Malden Lane carjacking.

Police believe they're connected.

The 13-year-old has been preliminarily charged with armed robbery, pointing a firearm and criminal mischief.
