INDIANAPOLIS — Authorities are investigating after a faculty member allegedly physically assaulted a student Friday at Roncalli High School, according to an email sent to parents from the school.
A student told the dean of students the incident happened in the school's cafeteria, according to the email, sent to RTV6 by a parent of a Roncalli student. The student did not need medical attention.
The incident was reported around 1 p.m. Friday to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, according to a police report.
The faculty member, whose identity has not been released, is on paid administrative leave while the incident is under investigation, according to the email.
Roncalli High School reported the incident to police and the Indiana Department of Child Services, according to the email.
"We ask for prayers for all involved and assure you of our continued commitment to student safety," Principal Chuck Weisenbach said in the email.
IMPD public information officer Michael Hewitt said in an email that a district detective is investigating the case.

On Friday, December 6, a Roncalli High School student reported to the school’s dean of students that he was physically assaulted by a faculty member during an incident in the school cafeteria.
The school called the student’s parents and the police, and a report was made by the school to the Indiana Department of Child Services. The police met at the school with the individuals involved. The student required no medical attention.
Roncalli notified all school parents of the incident Friday afternoon.
The faculty member is on administrative leave while the authorities investigate the matter. The school is cooperating with the police and DCS in their investigation.
