Student brings gun to north side middle school

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- A student brought an unloaded gun to a school on Indianapolis' north side Thursday.

According to a message Westlane Middle School principal Bill Pitcock sent to parents, a different student told the administration about the situation. School officials confiscated the gun.

The student was suspended from school and will be recommended for expulsion for one year.

Pitcock recommended that parents talk to their children about the importance of school safety.

This is the second gun-related incident the school has had in less than two years. In 2015, a student brought a gun to the middle school.
