BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- An Indiana University student was arrested early Friday morning after a suspicious package was found on campus.
Daven Patton was arrested at about 1:40 a.m. on a preliminary charge of terroristic mischief, a Level 5 Felony.
An IU employee reported seeing a suspicious package outside the Student Services building Thursday at about 8:30 p.m. Officers with the Indiana University Police Department arrived and found a USPS box on the sidewalk near the building.
The box was sealed, and police didn't know what was inside it. Written on top of the box were the words "Call the Bomb Squad."
Officers set up a perimeter around the building and called the Indiana State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team.
Police determined there was no explosive device inside the box at about 10:30 p.m. The label on the box led police to Patton. After searching his residence, police say they found evidence linking him to the crime.
Nobody was inside the building at the time and it was an isolated area of campus. Police don't believe it posed an immediate threat to students or employees.
