Teenage boy shot at Muncie house party near Ball State dies

MUNCIE — A teenage boy shot early Saturday morning at a large house party in Muncie near Ball State University’s campus, died Monday morning.

Daymarr Kennedy, 17, died Monday at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Delaware County Rick Howell said.

Kennedy was one of seven people who were shot at a large house party after an argument led to gunfire, police said.

Spelmon Allen remains at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in critical condition, Muncie police Chief Joe Winkle said.

Tyler Childers who was also hit by a car, was taken by a medical helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition, is now in serious but stable condition, Winkle said.

Muncie Police Department officers arrested VaShaun Harnett, 19, of Muncie, and preliminary charged him with two counts of attempted murder, according to court documents. He remains in the Delaware County Jail, according to an online inmate log.

Investigators spoke with several witnesses from the party after the shooting, but are asking for anyone else who was at the party to contact them at 765-747-4867.
