INDIANAPOLIS -- If you want to stop getting annoying calls from telemarketers, you have until midnight Tuesday to sign up for Indiana's "Do Not Call" list.

It's free to register your landline, cell, prepaid wireless numbers and voice over internet protocols (VOIP). This will help you avoid calls from telemarketers beginning April 1.

"It's still a great idea to sign up because it will block a large number of unwanted calls," said Attorney General Curtis Hill. "If you don't sign up, it's a green light to the people who do follow the rules to simply call you and inundate you with a number of calls. I would encourage everyone to continue to sign up for the 'Do Not Call' list despite the fact that we still get annoying calls."

If you miss the deadline, you'll have another opportunity to sign up in May. Registration deadlines occur every three months. You may register at any time, however, you will likely receive calls until the "Do Not Call" list is once again available to telemarketers

Whether or not you are on the list, the attorney general's office says you shouldn't answer calls from unknown numbers, especially those with area codes from another state. If you're receiving these calls, you can file a complaint.
