The source behind a mysterious white powder that fell on a southwest-side neighborhood is warning people that the substance will be around for a while longer.
Vertellus Specialties, a chemical production company, met with concerned families in the neighborhood Monday night, explaining that the powder is not dangerous and is an ingredient used in a chemical process at the Wayne Township factory.
People near the 1700 block of S. Moreland Avenue found the white powder on Sunday and called the authorities.

The company has given free car washes to everyone who found the powder on their vehicle.
However, spokespeople for Vertellus said the substance will still be in yards, on roofs and in the air for the next few weeks.
