Woman killed in early morning head-on crash near New Palestine

NEW PALESTINE — A 30-year-old woman was killed and two people were injured after a crash early Sunday morning near New Palestine, according to the sheriff's office.

Katherine Weaver, of New Palestine, was killed in a head-on, two-car crash around 6 a.m. in the 3500 block of West U.S. 52, according to a press release from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators believe a 26-year-old man, of Greenfield, crossed into the westbound lane and crashed into the car Weaver was in, according to the release.

The Greenfield man had several broken bones and trauma to his leg, according to the release. His injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. He is cooperating with investigators.

The driver of the car Weaver was in, a 40-year-old man, of New Palestine, was taken by a medical helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with several broken bones, according to the release. His injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. He is also cooperating with investigators.

It's unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol are factors in the crash, according to the release.

Weaver has four children between the ages of 5 and 13, according to the release. They are currently with family members.

The crash remains under investigation.
