Woman struck and killed on Interstate-65 in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — A pedestrian was struck and killed early Saturday morning on Interstate-65 in Indianapolis.

Indiana State Police troopers and emergency personnel were called around midnight to the southbound lanes of I-65 near Southport Road on the report of a pedestrian struck, according to a press release from ISP. When they arrived, they found a woman in a grassy area who had died.

Investigators believe the woman was walking or running on the interstate when she was struck, according to the press release from ISP. Troopers located an abandoned vehicle near the scene of the crash. It is unknown at this time if the vehicle is connected to the incident.

The driver who struck the woman stayed on scene and was not injured, according to ISP.

The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
