Your gas bill will be higher this year

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- Vectren has a reminder for its customers: Your gas bill will be higher this winter than a year ago.

Natural gas prices are a little higher than last year, the company said, but that isn't what will cause the price increase. Last year, winter temperatures were 20 percent warmer than normal, which is what kept costs lower.

This year, Vectren customers should expect to pay about $485 from November-March. Last year's average was about $425.

“Recall last winter was extremely mild so a likely return to more normal weather, coupled with slightly higher gas
prices, may lead to higher bills this heating season,” said Mike Roeder, president of Vectren Energy Delivery of
Indiana - North. ”

If you'll have trouble paying your bill, there are a few options for you.
