INDIANAPOLIS -- The owner of the Allied Liquor Store on the city's northeast side was killed after a "takeover style" robbery at the store early Saturday morning.
He was 70 years old. Police have identified him as Joseph Klein.
Police say three suspects went into Allied Liquors located at 5203 East 38th Street and demanded money. At least three employees were inside at the time.
Klein was shot multiple times. He was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
"Joe was a man of his own. He'd been in business, he'd been in several businesses, but he'd been in this one for over a decade. He didn't put up with a lot, but he had a big heart and he would help a lot of people," an Allied Liquor Store manager said.
"He was a good person, though and I just don't understand why folk would just shoot up people in the neighborhood. That's just so unfortunate, it hurts me, it breaks my heart," said Miss Berry who is a regular customer.
Police are still searching for the suspects.
