INDIANAPOLIS -- Rep. Susan Brooks (R) and Angela Demaree (D) are trying to be the next representative of Indiana’s 5th congressional district, which stretches from the northern part of Indianapolis to Marion, Indiana.

One major difference that separates the two candidates (and many other candidates across the country) is gun control.

Demaree supports a common sense approach to gun ownership, including background checks. She’s also said she will defend the rights of responsible gun-owning Hoosiers.

While Brooks has said she’ll fight against any legislation that would undo Indiana’s concealed-carry laws or handgun license rules.

Brooks said she also will not support background check legislation that would lead to a national registry, or an assault rifle ban.

Brooks wants to repeal Obamacare, saying it’s “ill-conceived” and “a huge mistake.” She wants to replace it with free-market policies. She supports Paul Ryan’s “A Better Way” healthcare agenda.

Angela wants to build on and improve Obamacare. She cites an example of the Trust for America’s Health Report, where it said that a $10-per-person investment could save Medicare and Medicaid more than $4 billion per year.

Both Brooks and Demaree have agriculture as one of their most prominent issues.

Brooks touts her votes for the Farm Bill and the PATH Act, while Demaree said she wants to make sure farmers have a seat at the next negotiations when the Farm Bill expires in 2018.
