INDIANAPOLIS — It looks like the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department will finally get body cameras in 2020.

IMPD officials have been saying they want body cameras on every officer for years, but it simply was too expensive.

But, after last night's mayoral debate, Mayor Joe Hogsett definitively said it was happening next year.

The mayor's proposed budget allocates $1.2 million to body cameras, but Hogsett isn't sure that's enough for a full program but feels it is enough to get started.

IMPD recently completed a 45 day trial period of body cameras.
