INDIANAPOLIS — A pedestrian was struck and killed Thursday evening on the northwest side of Indianapolis, according to IMPD.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to investigate the incident around 6:40 p.m. in the 4400 block of West 56th Street, near Guion Road. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Certified accident investigators responded to the scene, IMPD Officer William Young said.

A driver stayed on the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said. The driver was taken to Eskenazi Health for a blood draw, which is standard procedure when there has been a crash involving serious bodily injury or death.

Young said investigators believe a witness to the crash could have been driving on West 56th Street at the time of the crash and would like to speak with them. Police said the vehicle is a green Kia Sol and was traveling east on West 56th Street from Georgetown Road at approximately 6:40 p.m. The witness is asked to call the Crash Investigations Office at 317-327-6549.

Additional details, including the identities of those involved, haven't been released.
