INDIANAPOLIS — A young child has died after being pulled from an apartment complex pool on the city's northwest side Tuesday.
According to IMPD, a death investigation is underway at Abney Lake Apartments near 38th Street and Guion Road after a child of unknown age was pulled from a pool at the complex.
Responders were called to the location around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the boy as Willie Alexander, Jr., 5.
The boy's mother, Charisse Alexander, told WRTV he was close to celebrating his sixth birthday July 17.
He liked to spend time with his three siblings, who he loved dearly. He also enjoyed watching cartoons, riding his bike and spending time with his family.
"He was a special kid — a special one," Charisse Alexander said.
She added Willie went to the swimming pool that day with his family. She said his death was a tragic accident.
