BREMEN — A 1-year-old child has died after being pulled from a northern Indiana lake Saturday evening.

Indiana Conservation Officers and emergency personnel were called around 8 p.m. to the lake, in the 400 block of Lakeshore Drive, on the report of a child who was unresponsive after being pulled from the lake, according to a press release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Investigators believe the child's family was ending a birthday party when they noticed the back door open and the child missing, according to the release. Family members searched for the child in the lake and found him floating. The child is believed to have been missing for 5 to 10 minutes before he was found.

The child was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in critical condition and died early Monday morning. An official cause of death is pending autopsy results.
