FULTON COUNTY, Ind. -- The 11-year-old boy who was hospitalized after he was struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning in Fulton County continues to improve, his family said.
Maverik Lowe, 11, was struck with three other children Tuesday while getting on a school bus near the intersection of State Road 25 and CR 400 N.
Lowe was flown to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne in critical condition after the crash. A representative from Indiana State Police said he had surgery for multiple broken bones and internal injuries.
The family released an update on Lowe's condition Friday saying Lowe continues to improve and is even making jokes with his nurses and care team.
"He continues to improve. He is alert, talking and even making jokes with his nurses and care team. While he is getting better, we know he has a long road ahead, and continued privacy for our family is greatly appreciated."
The other children hit were Alivia Stahl, 9, and her twin brothers, Xzavier and Mason Ingle, 6. They were all pronounced dead at the scene.

Indiana State Police say a school bus was stopped on State Road 25 with the stop arm and exterior lighting activated in front of a mobile home park. As children crossed the road to get on the bus, the kids were struck by a Toyota Tacoma that was being driven by Alyssa Shepherd, 24.
Shepherd was arrested Tuesday afternoon at her place of employment. She's been charged with three counts of felony reckless homicide and one count of passing a school bus with the stop arm extended, causing injury.
Shepherd was released Tuesday evening on a $15,000 bond.
