INDIANAPOLIS — Over 100 women competed in the Indy Women in Tech Championship at Brickyard Crossing for a chance at a $2 million purse.
The event draws in top female golfers from around the world.
We talked to a young golfer who is volunteering at the event this year. 13-year-old Claire Swathwood from Carmel has been playing since she was 4-years-old.
She's one of more than 700 volunteers that help make the event possible.
The 8th grader says golf teaches discipline, patience and hard work.
Swathwood is volunteering as a standard-bearer at the LPGA event so she'll be walking alongside the players carrying a standard with their scores on it.
"It's honestly, it's an honor because I've always wanted to do it," Swatchwood said. "I've always watched the players — they're my role models."
Along with the tournament, there will also be events focused on expanding the reach of robotic programs in schools, more STEM opportunities, and initiatives aimed at exposing teen girls to the potential of technology-focused careers.
