INDIANAPOLIS -- Anybody who finishes their career with more than 1,100 catches and 14,000 receiving yards is going to have their fair share of highlights.
But what was Marvin Harrison’s best play with the Colts?
Perhaps it’s the ridiculous one-handed catch he made against the Tennessee Titans in 2003. Quarterback Peyton Manning threw a deep pass over the middle, probably a little too far for Harrison to catch.
Harrison laid out for the ball, catching it with his right hand only. He reeled it in before the defender touched him down.
Or maybe it’s the play he made a few months later against the Denver Broncos. Harrison caught a pass over the middle, then dropped to the ground -- as he frequently did after catching a pass.
If a player is on the ground, an opposing player has to down him just with a touch. But nobody on the Broncos touched him. Harrison was aware enough to realize it. He got up and ran into the end zone untouched.
But it’s probably the touchdown catch he made in Foxboro, Mass. against the New England Patriots in 2006. Manning threw a pass to Harrison in the right side of the end zone.
The only problem was: Harrison was facing the wrong way.
Harrison spun around, used his left hand to tap the ball toward him, then grabbed it with both hands, dragging his feet as he fell out of the end zone.
It’s really a catch you have tosee to fully appreciate.
