INDIANAPOLIS -- There's nothing quite like the month of May in Indianapolis.
A month of race fever builds into the Indianapolis 500. It's hard to believe, but May is just six months away. Which means tickets for the 2018 Indianapolis 500 are now on sale.
"If we had the race today, it would still be the world's largest single-day sporting event," Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles said Wednesday. "In the last couple of years, since the 100th running, the momentum has been so strong. We're at that again."
Boles said more tickets have been sold on Nov. 1, than at the same day last year, thanks in large part to the Indianapolis community.
"This community has just really helped us grow the 500 again," Boles said. "It's a lot fun."
The 100th running sold out, so the TV blackout was lifted. IMS recently announced that Jim Cornelison would be singing "Back Home Again in Indiana" again in 2018.
