Ball State head football coach Pete Lembo is resigning to take an assistant position at Maryland.
The university announced Lembo's departure on Tuesday.
"It is incredibly difficult to say goodbye after five very meaningful years and building so many wonderful relationships with student-athletes, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community," said Lembo. "I tried to make a difference every day and I am proud of our many accomplishments on and off the field."
In his five years with Ball State, Lembo went 33-29.
The high point of his tenure was during the 2012 and 2013 seasons, when his team went to two consecutive bowl games.
Since the 2013 season, Ball State has had a combined record of 8-16.
Lembo will be joining new Maryland head coach D.J. Durkin's staff. Durkin has previously worked in the MAC.
