CARMEL, Ind. -- It's been four years since a PGA tournament was held at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana. So the burning question is: What's different?
The BMW Championship begins Thursday, and officials have made a few changes to the course in the four years between tours:
- Three new tee boxes added
- Ninety bunkers renovated
- Pond added around 17th green
"[The pond] definitely makes it more challenging down the stretch -- a long Par 3 [on the] 17th hole, and along the 18th hole dogleg," said Vince Pellegrino, Western Golf Association Senior Vice President.
Rory McIlroy, from Northern Ireland, won in 2012 with a score of 268.
The golfers aren't the only ones to see changes for the tournament.
Fans will be able to take advantage of 30 new luxury boxes around the 17th green, expanded bleachers on the 18th hole and a beer garden, complete with some of Indiana's most famous foods.
You can get a bratwurst, shrimp cocktail from St. Elmo Steak House and a square donut at the beer garden.
That is, if you can stand the traffic and parking restrictions.
If you don't care about golf, you should avoid the traffic issues altogether by avoiding the course. Use State Road 32, I-465, U.S. 31 or Michigan Road to get around.
