Two people shot near East 34th Street and Caroline Avenue in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — Two people were injured in a shooting Sunday afternoon on the northeast side of Indianapolis, according to police.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to investigate the incident near East 34th Street and Caroline Avenue.

When they arrived, they found one person with an apparent gunshot wound, IMPD Officer William Young said in an email. They were awake and breathing when they were taken to a local hospital.

Officers later located a second person with an apparent gunshot wound in the 3300 block of Nicholas Avenue, Young said. Their condition was not immediately clear.

Detectives are still investigating the incident.

Since 3 p.m. Friday, at least 17 people have been shot, one fatally, in Indianapolis, according to information from IMPD.
