INDIANAPOLIS -- Kimbal Musk, entrepreneur and brother of Elon Musk, has opened his second restaurant in Indianapolis.
The restaurant, Next Door American Eatery, opened May 1. It's located in the south Broad Ripple area.
“Indianapolis is a very warm community and we love being a part of it,” Musk said.
In early April, the entrepreneur opened Hedge Row on Massachusetts Avenue in the downtown Indianapolis area.
Musk’s restaurants contribute to the Learning Garden Initiative with his organization he co-founded, Big Green. These programs are currently in 31 Marion County public schools, and has plans to be in 100 total by 2020.

Next Door American Eatery donates $2 from every kale salad sold at the restaurant, and 1 percent of total sales from Hedge Row every year goes toward children in Indianapolis who are using the Learning Gardens.
The Next Door location on College Avenue and 46th Street may look familiar.
"We have worked really hard to preserve the historic character of this building,” Musk said. “We love going into old buildings, but this is a particularly special old building. It is a 100-year-old grocery store, it closed a few years ago, it turned this area into a food desert, and now we are back and made it into a real food destination for Indianapolis."
The grocery store was a Double 8 Foods, which had been in place for 58 years, not 100, as Musk said. For many people who live in the area, it was the only option for meat, produce and staples like bread and milk. Many local churches stepped up to provide transportation for people in the neighborhood who had no other way to get their necessities.
For those planning on visiting the new restaurant, Musk takes pride in the simple, locally grown food prepared and served at his new restaurant.
Next Door American Eatery is open every day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
