INDIANAPOLIS — A Muncie man died after a crash with another car early Friday on Interstate 465 caused him to became trapped in his vehicle, police say.
Joseph Dely, 31, was found unconscious and unresponsive when responders got to the scene, Indiana State Police said.
The crash happened about 5:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway, closing the roadway between Interstate 74 and South Arlington Arlington Avenue, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
Indianapolis State Police Sgt. John Perrine later confirmed the crash involved a fatality.
An investigation found Dely and another driver were heading southbound on I-465 when the second driver ran into the back of his car. That caused it to spin and overturn several times.
Investigators believe the second driver, a 22-year-old Indianapolis man, was distracted by a cell phone at the time of the crash. He was tested for drugs and alcohol, and those results are pending.
Additional details were not immediately available.
All lanes of I-465 were reopened by about 8 a.m.
