INDIANAPOLIS — One person was killed and another was injured in an interstate shooting early Saturday morning on the east side of Indianapolis.
According to Indiana State Police, officers were called to East 21st Street and North Emerson Avenue near Interstate 70 on a report of a vehicle crash just after 3:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers found a male driver and male passenger that both had injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. The victims were believed to have crashed the car after being shot.
According to police, Anthony Shelman, the driver of the car, was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The 35-year-old passenger, who is unnamed, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to police, it is believed that occupants of another vehicle fired multiple shots at the victims while they were driving.
ISP later arrested Julius Willis for the shooting.
According to Detective Christopher Hanson, a search warrant was executed at a residence on the southwest side of Indianapolis. During the search, methamphetamine was found.
Willis was taken into custody and is being charged with murder and attempted murder.
A female identified as Krishawna Cleveland, 24, was also taken into custody. She is charged with dealing and possession of methamphetamine.
ISP detectives are still working to develop a motive for the shooting.
This incident marks the 11th shooting on an Indianapolis interstate so far this year. ISP has investigated 53 additional incidents of road rage where a gun was displayed or pointed but not fired since Jan 1.
Detectives have not determined if this shooting was road rage related or targeted.
The victims were in a black 2014 Nissan Altima.
