INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says one man has died after a shooting in a church parking lot.

Officers responded to the 1700 block of East 25th Street, near Frederick Douglass Park, around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

IMPD Officer William Young says there was a disturbance before the person was shot and that a funeral ceremony was going on at the time.

The victim died at the scene. He was identified as Alan Jermaine Turman, 42.

"We'll continue to pray for that family that was here. Nobody should have to go through this, nobody should have to #1 suffer the loss of a loved one but to think that we had an act of violence here at a funeral that someone could not understand how to resolve that conflict resolution that we always talk about and let cooler heads prevail and just walk away. That's certainly disheartening to this community," Young said.

On Nov. 9, Marion County prosecutors charged Stefen Lowe, 35, with murder and other crimes in Turman's death. Lowe, prosecutors say, is the ex-husband of Turman's wife.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact Detective Brad Nuetzman at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317.327.3475 or e-mail him at Brad.Nuetzman@indy.gov.
