JOHNSON COUNTY — An Indianapolis man riding a moped died after he was struck by someone driving a pickup truck in a crash early Thursday in rural Johnson County, police say.
The crash involving James Hall, 43, was reported to police about 5:30 a.m. and happened in the northbound lanes of U.S. 31 near County Road 400 South, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.
This is close to Long's Furniture World & Mattress at 4108 U.S. 31.
The pickup driver told police that Hall was moving slowly in the passing lane, so he went to pass him in the slow lane. That's when, according to the pickup driver, Hall moved in front of him, causing a collision, according to a crash report.
The report lists "improper lane usage" on Hall's part as the primary factor in the crash.
The driver of the pickup was tested for the presence of alcohol, but the report does not list the results.
Traffic was restricted to just one lane on U.S. 31 while responders work the scene.
The sheriff's office hasn't released additional details.
