FISHERS — A man died Thursday after he was ejected from his vehicle that went into a ditch just off Interstate 69 and became trapped underneath the wreckage, police say.
Indiana State Police said it appeared the driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt when he struck a guardrail, causing his vehicle to overturn and eject him. It's not clear what caused his vehicle to go off the highway.
First responders were dispatched about 2:30 p.m. to the northbound lanes of I-69 between Cumberland Road and East 126th Street. There, they found the driver entrapped and tried to revive him but were unsuccessful.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterward by the Hamilton County Coroner's Office. He was the vehicle's only occupant.
The crash caused two right lanes to be closed until 5:45 p.m.
Police did not immediately disclose the driver's name. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
