CARMEL — A driver was killed and his passenger was injured when a truck they were in struck a tree Friday morning on Keystone Parkway in Carmel, according to police.
The driver was identified as Paul Powell, 51, of Kokomo.
Carmel Police Department officers were called to the crash around 6:38 a.m. near 99th Street and Keystone Parkway.
Police say Powell was driving a truck loaded gravel southbound when it left the road and struck a large tree. Powell was pronounced dead at the scene, and his front-seat passenger suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.
Carmel firefighters extricated at least one person from the vehicle and provided medical aid.
Southbound traffic was closed on Keystone Parkway between 96th Street and 106th Street.
It's unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
