Taj Simmons is a multimedia journalist who joined WRTV in August 2023.
Taj started as WRTV's weekend nightside reporter before moving to the weekday shift in January 2024. He started his In Your Community assignment in Morgan and Monroe counties in August 2025.
His cumulative reporting for WRTV led to Taj's nomination for Multimedia Journalist of the Year at the 2025 Indiana Broadcast Association Spectrum Awards.
The Oakland, California native is not a Hoosier by birth, but he is excited to learn all about Central Indiana and tell the stories of the people who make this state feel like home.
Taj brings more than a decade of TV experience to the WRTV newsroom, most recently with two years at WHO-TV in Des Moines as a reporter and weekend anchor.
While in Iowa, Taj covered numerous presidential candidates on the Iowa Caucus campaign trail, handled extreme weather such as snowstorms and tornadoes, and became a trusted voice for viewers throughout the Hawkeye State.
Prior to his stint in Iowa, Taj reported for WSLS-TV in Roanoke, Virginia and KTTC-TV in Rochester, Minnesota.
Taj graduated from DePaul University (the one with an L in Chicago, not the one with a W) with a double major in Journalism and Media Cinema Studies.
