INDIANAPOLIS — A 19-year-old Indianapolis man has been arrested after he allegedly shot a Grant County woman while she was driving on Interstate 70 Thursday.
The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-70 between Interstate 465 and Post Road, according to Indiana State Police. Troopers say someone in another vehicle shot the woman, causing her vehicle to go into an inner shoulder and strike a center wall.
The woman, 21, was taken to the hospital. Her condition is unknown. A man was inside the vehicle with the woman, but he wasn't hit by gunfire.
The suspect was arrested Friday afternoon after troopers attempted to stop his vehicle. He took off, but was later taken into custody near 38th Street and Drexel Avenue.
WRTV does not name suspects unless formal charges have been filed.
"Thanks to multiple witnesses who dialed 911 and reported the events they observed, this individual was taken into custody very quickly," ISP Detective Brandon Alberts said in a news release. "We truly appreciate the public’s assistance, cooperation and communication in this case which led to a prompt outcome in this shooting investigation."
