The victim, whose age and identity have not yet been released, was found dead inside an apartment in the 2600 block of Plaza Drive when crews responded for a fire, said Steve Mitchell, deputy chief of operations for the Pike Township Deputy Fire Department.
Crews responded about 9:55 p.m. and found heavy fire coming from a second-floor window of a building. The blaze was extinguished quickly, but the victim was dead by the time firefighters searched the apartment.
Officials are still working to determine the cause and circumstances of the fire, Mitchell said.
An IMPD officer was evaluated for injuries at the scene.
