KOKOMO — A woman who was missing in Howard County and later found dead died by drowning, according to the coroner's office.
Betty Stroup, 80, was last seen around 3:$5 a.m. Thursday leaving the area of the 2300 block of North 100 East, according to the Howard County Sheriff's Office. She was possibly carrying a small black Shih Tzu dog.
A Silver Alert was issued and officers searched the county, including a bloodhound, to try to find her. Her Shih Tzu dog was also with her.
On Sunday, Stroup and her dog were found in a dead ditch in the 1700 block of North Reed Road (State Road 931), according to the sheriff's office.
An autopsy on Tuesday found Stroup died by drowning and foul play isn't suspected.
